Gabriel Boric

Gabriel Boric Font (Spanish pronunciation: [ɡaˈβɾjel ˈβoɾitʃ ˈfont]; born 11 February 1986) is a Chilean politician who has been serving as the President of Chile since 11 March 2022. Boric gained prominence as a student leader during his time studying law at the University of Chile. He was president of its influential student federation during the student protests that began in 2011.

Prior to his presidency, Boric served in the Chamber of Deputies from 2014 to 2022, representing the Magallanes and Antarctic district. He first ran as an independent candidate in 2013 and later as part of the Broad Front coalition in 2017. In 2018, Boric founded the Social Convergence party, one of the parties that constitute the Broad Front.During the 2019 civil unrest in Chile, Boric played a pivotal role in negotiating the agreement that led to the October 2020 constitutional referendum. In December 2021, he secured the country's presidency by defeating José Antonio Kast in the second round of the presidential election, receiving 55.9% of the votes.

Following his election, Boric became the youngest president in Chilean history and currently holds the title of the fifth youngest state leader in the world, following Ibrahim Traoré of Burkina Faso, Milojko Spajić of Montenegro, Gaetano Troina of San Marino and Jakov Milatović of Montenegro.
