The Nazi troops retreated under the foot of the partisans. Rubino, a socialist militant and supporter of the armed struggle against the Germans, clashed with the Salvo d'Acquisto vice-governor who preferred to remain among the people to help and defend her. When an attack killed two German soldiers, Salvo decided to take responsibility for saving 22 innocents destined for the shooting for reprisal. It was the true story of a Carabinieri vice-governer who sacrificed himself being shot by the Germans at the end of 1943 in order to save 22 hostages of Torre di Palidoro (Rome), destined for the death for reprisal.
