Am 30. Mai 1889 scheiterte der South Fork Dam, der für wohlhabende Pittsburgh-Industrialisten und ihre Familien einen Vergnügungssee aufrechterhielt, aufgrund sehr starker Regenfälle und schlechter Wartung durch die Besitzer des Damms. Der platzende Damm schickte eine Mauer aus Wasser und Trümmern, 40 Meter hoch und eine halbe Meile breit, 14 Meilen stromabwärts zur geschäftigen Industriestadt Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Mehr als 2000 Menschen verloren ihr Leben in der Katastrophe. Dieser Dokumentarfilm erzählt die Geschichte, und erzählt uns, dass die Katastrophe leicht vermeidbar war.
