The Martre (Matrigna) is a silent short film directed by Alice Guy in 1906 and it discovers that children were suited to arouse in the audience strong feelings of compassion and empathy if they were presented as victims of suffering, poverty or abuse. One of the first films to address the issue of child abuse in the family is this one. The names of the child actors are not known.
