Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (transl. Never Say Goodbye), also abbreviated as KANK, is a 2006 Indian Hindi-language romantic drama film directed by Karan Johar, who wrote the story with Shibani Bathija, and produced by his mother Hiroo Yash Johar under the Dharma Productions banner. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukherji, Preity Zinta and Kirron Kher. The film explores themes of marital infidelity and dysfunctional relationships, and was promoted with the tag-line "A Love... That Broke All Relationships".Set and mostly taking place in New York City, it follows the story of Dev and Maya, who fall in love with each other, despite been married to different people. Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna was extensively shot over a 90-day shooting period in the United States. The cinematography of the film was done by Anil Mehta. Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy composed the music while the lyrics were penned by Javed Akhtar.Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna released worldwide on 11 August 2006 to mixed reviews from critics, with varied responses to its subject matter and direction. The film was a commercial success in India, becoming the fourth highest-grossing film of the year. It became the highest-grossing Indian film of all time in overseas at the time. The film was screened in over 1,200 cinemas worldwide, grossing a total of ₹1.13 billion ($37 million). It was also screened at the 31st Toronto International Film Festival and the 21st Tokyo International Film Festival.A recipient of several accolades, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna led the 52nd Filmfare Awards with 23 nominations, including Best Film, Best Director (Johar), Best Actor (Khan), Best Actress (Mukherji) and Best Supporting Actress (Zinta), and won Best Supporting Actor (Abhishek Bachchan).
