Plot.

A television engineer gets a job at the Radio in Budapest. On the first day of hiring he accidentally slaps the Director General of the television company. The two do not know each other, so the engineer's girlfriend proposes that a friend of the same comes to the Director to take up the job, after the boyfriend will come into service. But something is not right: the Director, convinced that the person hired by him is really the engineer wants to attend the work he is running. There are misunderstandings and accidents born, but in the end everything is clear and things are back to order.

A Thousand Lire a Month (Italian: Mille lire al mese) is a 1939 Italian "white-telephones" comedy film directed by Max Neufeld and starring Alida Valli, Umberto Melnati and Osvaldo Valenti. It is a remake of the 1936 Hungarian film Havi 200 fix. The plot concerns an electronic engineer who goes to Budapest, accompanied by his girlfriend, to work on experiments for a new television system leading to countless mix-ups.

It was shot at the Safa Palatino Studios in Rome. The film's sets were designed by the art director Ottavio Scotti.
