Plot.

Commissioner Maigret's investigations are a series of sixteen screenplays, drawn from as many novels and stories by Georges Simenon, who are the protagonists of Commissioner Maigret. The episodes were divided into four seasons, for a total of thirty-five episodes, aired on the National Program from 1964 to 1972 for the direction of Mario Landi, with Gino Cervi in the role of Maigret. It was Diego Fabbri who proposed the series to Rai and for the realization was commissioned Andrea Camilleri, at the time delegate of production; the latter called for the director Mario Landi who, in turn, chose Gino Cervi as the protagonist. Photographed in black and white, the series was very successful: the last season managed to glue 18.5 million viewers in front of television.

Le inchieste del commissario Maigret (i.e. 'The inquiries of the superintendent Maigret') is an Italian television series based on the detective fiction of Georges Simenon about the French police commissaire Jules Maigret, portrayed by Gino Cervi, directed by Mario Landi, in sixteen episodes, produced by RAI.

Shot in black and white, the series was very successful: the last season (1972) was followed by eighteen and a half million viewers.
