Plot.
The decline of a powerful and conservative Cariocan family, the White Tavares, in the period from 1984 to 1992. Passing through the death of Tancredo Neves, the election and impeachment of President Fernando Collor, the White Tavares go ruining and letting their family and financial problems shine. Accepting the request of a priest, the White Tavares jurist creates the orphan boy Mariel, who is under the care of the maid Jandira. Mariel grows up and becomes a driver of the family, but ends up getting involved with Carla, the youngest of the house, and is expelled from the mansion accused of rape. Mariel meets Jandira, who has always loved him, as a man It leads him to the worship of an evangelical church and Mariel sees in religion the resolution of his problems. In five years, he becomes a millionaire with his own church, the Temple of the Divine Flame. However, Mariel remains connected to the White Tavares: he has never forgotten Carla and desires revenge.
