The Middle Ages Girls was written and directed by Hubert Viel. The film is inspired by a work by a historian called "La Femme Au temps des cathédrales", which rehabilitates the status of women in the Middle Ages. The film uses both the comedy and sketch film register, with the same intentions as the book, and almost total roles are played by six children who each endorse a dozen characters. In December 2015, at the Bordeaux International Independent Film Festival, Michael Lonsdale played the role of the great-grandfather storyteller for the first time. He got a positive reception.
