Harriet Hartley, also called Annie Hartley, (Chorlton-cum-Hardy, England, 1876) was, alongside Sarah Whitley, Joseph Whitley, and Adolphe Le Prince, participant in Roundhay Garden Scene, Louis Le Prince, the oldest still surviving film. It is, in this way, one of the first actresses in film history. The footage took place on a property located in Roundhay, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, on October 14, 1888.He died on December 13, 1912 in Manchester, having been buried in Southern Cemetery, alongside his mother Elizabeth Hartley and his maternal grandfather Jesse Bradshaw.In correspondence from Lizzie Le Prince, Louis Le Prince's wife, and in the autobiographies of Lizzie and his son Adolph, they always refer to Harriet as Annie. His letters are signed as Annie. Someone, much later, would have introduced his name as Harriet. E. Kilburn Scott, who documented Louis Le Prince's work in a work now located in the Leeds Central Library, also calls it this way.
