Plot.

Kid brothers Remi and Akin get to spend a gift of a day with their estranged father Folarin. They go on a voyage into Lagos observing the colossal city for the first time and the hoops their father must deal with to provide. All this happens in the backdrop of a huge 1993 presidential election result which calls into question his ability to get them home.

My Father's Shadow is an upcoming drama film directed by Akinola Davies Jr. (in his feature length film debut) from a screenplay he co-wrote with his brother, Wale Davies. Starring Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù, it follows a family reunion during the 1993 Nigerian election.

The film, a British-Nigerian co-production, will have its world premiere at the Un Certain Regard section of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival on 18 May 2025, the first time a Nigerian film has been selected for the festival's Official Selection. The streaming service Mubi acquired distribution rights for North America, the U.K., Ireland, and Turkey in February 2025.
