Plot.
1885: Giacomo Lanzavecchia, professor of philosophy, returns to his country after the Garibaldine campaigns. However, he finds a disastrous family situation: the old father has given himself to alcohol, the family company has now failed. He must therefore give up his dreams and marriage to his beloved Celestina. James finds work with the family of the Magnenzio Counts, and the old count, passionate scholar, also offers him hospitality at his castle. Celestina is also hosted, so the two boyfriends wait for the best times But when the young rampollo of the accounts Jacinto returns home for a few days, he immediately wanders over Celestina.

Giacomo the Idealist (Italian: Giacomo l'idealista) is a 1943 Italian drama film directed by Alberto Lattuada and starring Massimo Serato, Marina Berti and Andrea Checchi. It represents the directorial debut of Lattuada.It is based on the novel with the same name by Emilio De Marchi. It was shot at the Fert Studios in Turin with sets designed by the art director Fulvio Jacchia. It belongs to the movies of the calligrafismo style.
