A lawyer strongly argues against the abolition of the death penalty at a congress and is supposed to repeat his lecture in Rio de Janeiro. At the ocean crossing he meets a beautiful woman and falls in love with her so that he wants to kill a detective who persecutes her for murder first and after failure of this attack sacrifices his entire fortune to save her. Arrived in Rio, he fights for the abolition of the death penalty and learns that the beloved woman is not a murderer, but an actress who has played a comedy for him to heal him from his hardship. She then becomes his wife.
