Plot.

The film is set in Lithuania after the Second World War. It shows dramatic events in a small Lithuanian farming community, where people are split between the Soviets and the "brothers in the woods", who are fighting to defend their land from the Soviets after the end of the Second World War.

Nobody Wanted to Die (Lithuanian: Niekas nenorėjo mirti, Russian: Никто не хотел умирать) is a 1965 Lithuanian film made in Soviet Lithuania and directed by Vytautas Žalakevičius. Žalakevičius, actor Donatas Banionis, and cinematographer Jonas Gricius were awarded USSR State Prize for the film in 1967. The film was shot at the Toliūnai Manor in Pasvalys District and featured additional scenes filmed at the Maslauskiškiai Watermill in Raseiniai District.

The black-and-white, widescreen film runs 107 minutes (1 hour 47 minutes). It is recognized as the first Soviet film to portray the lives of the Lithuanian partisans.
