Plot.
Foreign country wants to perpetrate a coup in Brazil. They employ a new technique of subliminal messages, which are transported along with radio and TV waves. In no time, the population gets deranged and the country dives into ultimate chaos. Only a few people who don't watch television nor listen to radio are immune to it, and have the responsibility to abort the scheme, without really knowing what they're dealing with.

The Fifth Power (Portuguese: O 5º Poder) is a 1962 Brazilian science fiction thriller film directed by Alberto Pieralisi, and written and produced by Carlos Pedregal. It tells the story of foreign agents who wish to take control of Brazil's natural resources by transmitting subliminal messages to convince the population to overthrow its government, and it is considered one of the first serious Brazilian science fiction films. The film is notable for coming two years before a military coup.
