Rome, spring of '44. In a small-bourgeois house, Paul, a short-sighted and confrontational boy, an orphan of a mother, has a father who is a fascist and a waiter and a brother in uniform of the Tenth MAS. He falls in love with a cotan, daughter of a fascist torturer of Via Tasso, and makes friends with an invalid roommate, active as a gappist in the clandestine struggle.
