At the end of the 19th century, in a village of the Apennines, in a house lost in the middle of a valley, Alexander and Peter live two different and very related brothers. The two children, eleven and thirteen years old, carefree and full of energy, live like two wild animals, always hunting in trouble and spending their days between the races with carts, diving to the river and the thefts in the cellar. At the death of the mother, the father sells the last possessions to give to the children two beautiful horses not yet tamed, Baio and Sauro. Become adults, while Alessandro feels growing the desire to cross the mountains and go away, Peter wants to become a breeder and live with Veronica, the girl he loves.
