In the story in Helsinki, Lauri Haapa (Edvin Laine) and Anna Kauhto (Mervi Järventaus) are released from prison. They get into trouble when they don’t get a job because of their past. Lauri acquires the wrong identity documents to get to the factory. Dangerous criminal Asseri Tantere (Yrjö Tuominen) begins to blackmail Lauria, who appears in the name of Pentti Tahvana, whose identity is revealed in connection with the murder of Kaalepi (Toppo Elonperä), the factory's night watchman.
