Plot.
Luise, raised in Poznan around 1900, marries the manor son Karl von Bolin. The marriage is from the beginning under no good star. When Karl goes instead of a military career into the German-African colonies, Luise remains with the children alone in Poznan and starts a medical study there against the will of the parents-in-law. In addition, she refuses to follow her husband to Africa. During the First World War Karl is interned Years later, he returns home – as a stranger.

Beloved Life (German: Geliebtes Leben) is a 1953 West German drama film directed by Rolf Thiele and starring Ruth Leuwerik, Carl Raddatz and Albert Lieven. Following her husband's release from a prisoner of war camp in 1947, a woman remembers their lives together since the pre-First World War era.
It was made at the Göttingen Studios and on location in Hamburg. The film's sets were designed by Walter Haag and Erich Kutzner.
