Cine Vaz Lobo was opened in January 1941, in the neighborhood of the same name. Considered an important milestone in the cultural development of the region and one of the best exhibition halls in the city, its activities ended in 1986. In 2009, the building would be demolished for the construction of a section of Transcarioca, but the mobilization of the residents caused the project to be changed, saving the building.
