Wiki.
The Man with the Bassoon is a two-part TV film from 2011. The film premiered on 18 September 2011 at Casino Velden, on 29 and 30 September 2011 the first broadcast (two parts) took place on ORF and ARD The film is based on the 2004 autobiographical bestseller by Udo Jürgens and Michaela Moritz. Udo Jürgens was honored with this film for his 77th birthday. The film covers a period from 1891 to 2010 and describes the story of three generations. The first section tells of Heinrich Bockelmann, the grandfather Udos, who ascends to Moscow to become the banker of the Russian tsar, is arrested and imprisoned in the First World War, but can save his family and himself. The second section deals with Udo's father Rudolf Bockelmann, mayor of Austria, who becomes a prisoner between Nazi ideology and his own values. The circle closes with the life of Udo Jürgen's son, whose development and career the film traces by showing how Udo Jürgens became one of the most important entertainment musicians in the German language area.
