The fisherman's son Stefan Staudacher returns from his training and, as the deceased Baron wished, is hired as an inspector. From the former friendship between Sabine, the daughter of the Baroness, and Stefan quickly becomes an intimate relationship. But Stefan is a thorn in the eye of the nephew of the Baroness, Wolfgang von Döhring, because he can see through his investigations that he is turning money away for himself.
