The young and malicious peasant-serf Minzguir is sent to the army by his masters and is engaged in the regiment of the guards of St. Petersburg. Deviating and playful he fulfills his obligations as a soldier. But one day bad news comes from his campaign, and Minzguir is looking for a way to help his family and fiancée. While he is on guard before a famous icon of Our Lady of Kazan, Minzguir decides to break the window that protects the icon and take one of the precious stones that surround it. When it is discovered that the stolen stone is in his possession, Minzguir does not hesitate to claim that it is Our Lady of Kazan who gave it to him.
