How to Make Movies is a silent American film from 1918, written, produced, directed and starred by Charles Chaplin. The film is a kind of documentary that was not released by Chaplin at the time of its production. It is a promotional film, with the intention of showing the public the Chaplin studio itself and the process of making films, in this case, its own. Some of its scenes were taken advantage of and, finally, shown to the public by Chaplin in his 1959 film The Chaplin Revue. How to Make Movies begins in a somewhat bizarre way, showing the stages of construction of the Chaplin studio and then the relations between him and his team, from the staff to the actors. The process of editing, production and direction made by himself is also shown. The best part of the film is when Chaplin prepares to incarnate The Tramp. In addition to the makeup process, Chaplin gives a small sample of his performance.
