Giovanni (John) Cattabriga returns as a rich man to the native country of Romagna which he had left as an emigrant many years before. He is with him the son Frank, born in Boston, an American citizen, but whom his father wants to marry with a girl from his native country. The presence of the rich young man immediately unleashes a ruthless hunt from the most prominent families in the country, anxious to be able to give his daughter to such a rich party as a wife. But Frank does not give signs of interest for these attentions, rather he is annoyed and seeks to escape from it. Evaristo, a cousin of Giovanni, promises to organize things in order to find the young man's wife, but provided that John then finances the purchase of a footballer "orundo" ̈ for the country's football team, of which he is the President and who goes very badly in the championship.
