Plot.
Bharathi, who works for a rich man, and Kannama, the daughter of a rich landlord, fall in love. Kannama commits suicide by burning herself as she cannot marry Bharathi because of their caste difference.

Bharathi Kannama is a 1997 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed by Cheran in his directoral debut starring R. Parthiban and Meena. The film marks Cheran's debut as a director and screenwriter. It was well-received upon its commercial release. Prabhu Solomon remade the film in Kannada as Usire (2001).
