Biography
Brian P. Probyn (born November 30, 1920 in London-Lambeth, United Kingdom – November 25, 1982 in Sydney, Australia) was a British cameraman. After years as a camera assistant and a simple cameraman, Probyn became the chief cameraman in the early 1960s. His first employer was the BBC. Subsequently, Probyn photographed a series of short films and less important entertainment films, as well as a few artistically ambitious A-productions such as Ken Loach's slum drama Poor Cow and Terrence Malick's outsider, road and gangster movie Badlands – Destruction Dreams. At the beginning of 1969, Probyn was a cinematographer at the American skier's film Schußfahrt with Robert Redford. In 1973, Probyn settled in Sydney, Australia. There, he continued his work as chief cameraman and also worked as a lecturer in camera work at the Australian Film & TV School.
