Biography
George Wallace (born in Martins Ferry, Ohio) is an American novelist and a retired United States Navy Commander. Wallace was born in Martins Ferry and raised in Eastern Ohio. He earned an engineering degree from the Ohio State University.He entered the United States Navy. Around 1975 he began working in the nuclear power and submarine communities.He served on different submarines: on the Lafayette-class ballistic missile submarines USS John Adams (SSBN-620) and USS Woodrow Wilson (SSBN-624); on the Sturgeon-class nuclear attack submarine Spadefish as Executive Officer; from 1990 to 1992 he commanded the Los Angeles-class nuclear attack submarine USS Houston (SSN-713).During this last mission, he collaborated with the United States Navy SEALs community in the development of SEAL/submarine tactics.
In 1995, Wallace retired from the Navy.His first novel, Final Bearing (2003), was inspired by his experience on the submarine Spadefish.He and his wife, Penny, live in Alexandria, Virginia.
