Biography
Veera Saar (until 1936 Veera-Alise Döring; March 28, 1912 Aasiku, Jamburg County, St. Petersburg Governorate - July 20, 2004) was an Estonian writer and pedagogue.
She graduated from the Jõhvi Highschool in 1931 and from the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Tartu in 1937. In 1940, she defended her master's thesis "The Bone Ring" in the field of folklore, which was approved as a candidate of sciences degree in 1947. Academically, she was a member of the Lembela Corporation since 1935.
From 1937 to 1959, she worked as a teacher in Tartu, Kehtna and Jäneda.
From 1958, she lived in Aruküla (now Raasik municipality), where she also wrote most of her books.
In 2018, Veera Saar was selected as one of the hundred most memorable local residents as a result of a public survey conducted as part of the campaign "100 Local Locals of the Century"
