Éric Vu-An, born in Paris on January 3, 1964, is a French dancer, choreographer and ballet master. Éric Binh Vu-An is of Vietnamese origin by his father. He entered the dance school of the Paris Opera in 1974 after being spotted by Claude Bessy, he became a professional dancer at fifteen years after obtaining an age exemption from the Ministry of Labour.[ref. necessary] He became "subject" in 1982 and danced solo roles with all the dancers of the Paris Opera's ballet stars.Carolyn Carlson, Alvin Ailey or William Forsythe noticed and created for him Rudolf Noureev gave him the role of Basilio in Don Quichotte (1983), then Maurice Béjart gave him the main role in Kabuki (1986) and other ballets such as Boléro. He shoots with Bernardo Bertolucci in A tea in the Sahara in 1990, then in Katia and Volodia by Dominique Delouche or in Nijnski, the puppet of God by Philippe Vallois.Eric Vu-An has created several choreographies since 1989. His first work is the solo by Antinous, which he dances in the ballet Les Mémoires d'Maurizio Scaparro In 1995, Éric Vu-An was named head of the ballet of the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux and in 1997 head of the Opera Théâtre d'Avignon. On January 1, 2005, he was appointed ballet master associated with the director of the Ballet national de Marseille, Frédéric Flamand. He became artistic director of the Ballet Nice Méditerranée in 2009. Éric Vu-An continued to teach, notably at the Ballet de l'Opéra national de Paris, and to be an artist invited to many international companies.
