Biography
Maurice Tillet (23 October 1903 β 4 September 1954) was a Russian-born French professional wrestler, better known by his ring name, The French Angel/The Angel. Tillet was a leading box office draw in the early 1940s and was twice World Heavyweight Champion in the American Wrestling Association run by Paul Bowser in Boston.
It has been rumored that Tillet was the inspiration for the animated movie character Shrek, based on the resemblance; but there's no evidence for this.
