Biography
José Luis Urquieta (born March 20, 1949) is a Mexican film director. He makes both commercial films and more committed films about social problems. He is a modest family and abandons his studies to help with household expenses. After trying various trades, he began working for Studios América in 1963 while he was only 14 years old. He first worked in the field of construction and then took sound, cameraman assistant and script.After working as assistant director between 1972 and 1977, he made his debut as director in 1978. In 1979, he released the film Al filo de los Machetes, which deals with the agrarian struggle in the State of Tamaulipas against local leaders surrounded by corrupt authorities.
