Biography
Sebastian Grobler (* 1968 in Hamburg) is a German film director. He became more famous in 2011 with the film Der ganz große Traum, in which Daniel Brühl took the leading role. After graduating from high school and civilian service from 1989 to 1995, Grobler studied German studies with a focus on theatre and media, psychology and history at the University of Hamburg. He worked as a directing assistant for the Oscar-nominated film Beyond the Silence by Caroline Link, the TV-multiparter Der König von St. Pauli von Dieter Wedel and the Hamburger Theater Kampnagel. He also assisted the directors Michael Knof and Christian Wagner. From 1997 to 2003 he studied at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in Ludwigsburg. His final film was entitled Morgen frühtig ist die Nacht rum, for which he won the Studio Hamburg Young Talent Award in the category Best Director in 2003. In 2007 he was awarded a VGF scholarship for young producers. Subsequently Grobler took over the direction of the television series Marienhof, Sturm der Liebe und Die Fallers – Eine Schwarzwaldfamilie. His first cinema film was the football film Der ganz große Traum mit Daniel Brühl in the leading role in 2011.
