Biography
Fernando Martín Peña (Buenos Aires, November 12, 1968) is a critic, teacher, researcher, collector, film divulgator and Argentine television presenter. In the 1970s his father worked in an advertising agency and carried copies of advertisements in 16 mm, and when he was 8 years old he was given a Super 8 projector. Thus began his love for film and films.In 1991 he graduated from the Experimental Center of Cinematographic Realization (Cerc, today called the National School of Experimentation and Cinematographic Realization, Enerc) in the orientation Critica e Investigación. In 1993 he founded the film magazine Film, which co-directed together with Paula Félix Didier, Sergio Wolf and Aldo Paparella until 1998. In 1994 he created together with Octavio Fabiano the Filmoteca Buenos Aires, a private entity dedicated to the preservation and diffusion of cinema, to which shortly after they were joined by the collector Fabio Félix Didier, Sergio Wolf and Aldo Paparella until 1998. He considered the three as his masters. He was a producer of three television cycles, including Caloi in his ink, led by Caloi, and one of the founders of the Association for the Support of Audiovisual Heritage (Aproxinain), who rescued about 300 films in Argentina that were at risk of being lost. He was one of the promoters of the regulation of Law 25.119, sanctioned in 1999, which created the national cinematheque. Since 2002 Peña is the director of the cinema area of the Museo de Arte Latinoamericana in Buenos Aires, Malba.In November 2004 and December 2007, he was director of the Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival (Bafici). He is a regular contributor to the International Film Festival of Mar del Plata.As a researcher, Peña recovered several films that were considered to be lost or incomplete in the Museo de Arte Latinoamericana. In both films they are shown exclusively in film support.
