Biography

He started working with audiovisual in 1995, making short films and institutional films, and graduated in Journalism at the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná, where he also completed a specialization course in History of Art in 1998. In 1996 he moved to the United States, where he studied Film for one year at the University of California, Los Angeles. Back in Brazil he worked at TV Bandeirantes Curitiba, doing special projects production. He spent the next two years as a journalist for the newspaper Jornal do Estado. In 2000 he directed his first documentary, Memória do Futebol Paranaense, and wrote the script for the animated short film Metamorfose, which won the Best Animation prize at the Festival of Maranhão. After that he produced and directed the documentary Guido Viaro – Um Retrato Coletivo, about the Italian-Brazilian fine artist Guido Viaro, and the short fiction film Mandarim, nominated for several Brazilian festivals. In 2009, he directed the medium-length documentary Carrascos – Artistas do Ringue, about fighters from the golden era of staged fights on Brazilian TV (known as telecatch). He also directed two more documentaries: Pescadores de Tainha, with the photographer Leonardo Régnier, and Teatro Político – Uma História de Utopia, with the journalist Ana Carolina Caldas. In 2012, he wrote and directed the short documentary film Um Filme de Bonecos, a look into wire puppets.
