Biography

Moharam Fouad (June 24, 1934 - June 27, 2002) was a famous Egyptian singer and movie star. Dubbed "The Sound of the Nile", Fouad was one of the biggest stars of the golden age of Egyptian musical cinema in the 1960s.


Fouad’s introduction to the screen came in 1959 with the film Hassan and Nayima, an Egyptian adaptation of Romeo and Juliet starring him and Soad Hosny. He has appeared in 13 movies and left well over 900 songs behind him. 20 of his songs were in praise of Palestine. Fouad had several marriages but had only one son, Tarek. His grandson is Belgian-Egyptian singer Tamino.


In 2002, Fouad died of heart and kidney complications in Cairo.
