Biography
Esther Esche (born 13 March 1965 in East Berlin) is a German actress. Esther Esche is from an artistic family. Her father was the actor and recitator Eberhard Esche. She grew up with her "second father", the film documentary artist Gerhard Scheumann. Esche has been taught classical ballet for many years; she also trained pantomime for seven years with Eberhard Kube at the Pantomimetheater Prenzlauer Berg and in the Pantomime Ensemble of the Deutsches Theater Berlin. From 1984 to 1988 she completed an acting training at the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst "Ernst Busch" Berlin in Berlin-Schöneweide. She received her first engagement after completing her studies at the Theater Senftenberg, where she remained for two years in the ensemble. In the early 1990s, Esche returned to Berlin and subsequently appeared at various Berlin stages. She appeared at the Berliner Ensemble in the play Blue Horses on Red Grass by Mikhail Schatrow. She also had engagements at the Volksbühne (as Luciana in Die Komödie der Irrungen), at the Maxim Gorki Theatre and at the Deutsches Theater She also performed at the Landesbühne Rheinland-Pfalz in Neuwied in 1993 as Kreusa in Franz Grillparzer's Trauerspiel Das goldene Fleeze. She played, among others, the Elisabeth von Valois in Don Karlos, Helena in Ein Sommernachtstraum, Olivia and Viola in Was wollst, Rosalind in Wie es gefügt, the Gertrude in Hamlet and the Lady Macbeth in Macbeth. 2009/10 she played at the Berliner Kriminal Theater in the Thriller bis zum ußersterst. In the 2010/11 season she appeared at the Schauspiel Magdeburg as Claire Zachanassian in Dürrenmatts The visit of the old lady Esther Esche was also active in the Free Berlin Theater scene. She was among the founding members of the Hackesche Hoftheater. Since the mid-1990s Esther Esche has also appeared in numerous film and television roles. In addition to continuous series roles, Esche was frequently cast in crime fiction. She gained fame especially through her role as Miss Sonja, the patented and helpful domestic servant and girlfriend of the couple Klemperer, in the multi-part television series Klemperer – Ein Leben in Deutschland. In 2001 Esche played in the short film Die Andere, the final film of the director Beryl Schennen at the Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film München. Esche received the actor's award as "Best Actress" of the European Film Festival in Brest in 2003. In 2002, she appeared in the film Hundsköpfe under the direction of Karsten Laske in the female leading role. She impersonated the kindergarten teacher Sylvia, who traces a secret of her husband Christoph from his past to the border troops of the GDR. In 2010 Esche had an episode main role in the hospital series In All Freundheit; she played in it the long-defeated employees of a gardening plant, which is delivered to the Sachsenklinik after a lightning strike. Esther Esche lives with her husband and her son in Berlin.
