Friedrich-Karl Praetorius (born 6 January 1952 in Hamburg) is a German writer, theatre and film actor. Friedrich-Karl Praetorius graduated from the Hamburg University of Music and Performing Arts in 1971 with a diploma. From 1972 to 1977 he was engaged by Peter Zadek to the Schauspielhaus Bochum. A one-year interruption led him as a member of the "PipSimmons-group" to Rotterdam and London In 1976, together with Herbert Grönemeyer, he was the protagonist in Wedekind's Spring Awakening, followed by a performance in the legendary first Hamlet production of Zadek in Bochum–Hamme. Zadek then brought him to Hamburg. There, he first played at the Hamburger Schauspielhaus in the premiere of the piece Freibrief by Gaston Salvatore under the direction of Arie Zinger. Peter Zadek then occupied him with the central role of Gethin Price in the play Komiker, which was invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen after the premiere at the Hamburg Thaliatheater in 1978. Neuenfels entrusted him with the title role in King Ödipus at Schauspiel Frankfurt in 1979. There followed further title roles. From 1982 to 1984 Praetorius was at the Schiller Theatre. After a short engagement at the Munich Residenz-Theater Ivan Nagel took him to the Staatstheater Stuttgart for the 1985–1986 season. In 1988 he appeared at the Vienna Burgtheater as a merchant of Venice, in 1990 he moved to the Schauspielhaus Zürich before going to Frankfurt again from 1992 where he has since played In addition, he gives guest performances at other theatres in German-speaking countries.Praetorius was often seen in films and television series. In the 1973 film Die Zärtlichkeit der Wölfe von Rainer Werner Fassbinder he was cast as Kurt Fromm. He played several times in the television series Tatort and in the series Ein Fall für Zwei, as well as supporting roles in film adaptations of the Brechtstücke Dreigroschenoper and Mutter Courage. In the second season he played a supporting role in the ARD series Liebling Kreuzberg as Referendar Wittlich (1988) In 2011 he worked in the Film Hotel Lux. In addition to an activity as a book critic and journalist for the Spiegel, the Zeit and the Frankfurter Rundschau, he wrote several books from 1993 which were published by Suhrkamp and Insel Verlag. He wrote several plays, including Alzheimer Roulette and Die Frauenfalle (both premiered in 1999) and Wildgrober or end with the theatre, dedicated to the late actor colleague Ulrich Wildgruber, who was invited to the play market of the Berlin Theatertreffen 2000.
