Colin Escott (born August 3, 1949) is a British journalist and writer known for his extensive work in the fields of country, rock, roll and folk music. Escott was born as the son of an optician in England. In 1971 he graduated from the University of Kent at Canterbury with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He worked for Island Records in London and Polygram in Canada. With country musician Ian Tyson, Escott wrote his biography He also wrote numerous liner notes for Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson Tompall Glaser, and Jerry Lee Lewis. Escott also wrote some of the booklets from the rockabilly series That such Flat Git It! of the Bremer Bear Family Records labels. His biography of Hank Williams provided the basis for the screenplay for the film I Saw The Light with Tom Hiddleston in 2015. With Floyd Mutrux, Escott wrote the Musical Million Dollar Quartet in 2006 and the miniseries Sun Records for the country music television station in 2017. Today Escott lives in Nashville, Tennessee.
