Bill Viola (nascido em 1951) é um artista de vídeo contemporâneo cuja expressão artística depende da tecnologia eletrônica, sonora e de imagem em novas mídias. Suas obras focam as ideias por trás de experiências humanas fundamentais como o nascimento, a morte e aspectos da consciência.

Início da vida

Viola cresceu em Queens, Nova Iorque, e Westbury, Nova Iorque. Ele frequentou P.S. 20, em Flushing, onde ele era capitão do Esquadrão de TV. Em férias nas montanhas com sua família, ele quase se afogou em um lago, uma experiência que ele descreve como ". o mundo mais bonito que eu já vi em minha vida" e "sem medo", e "pacífico."Em 1973 Viola se formou na Universidade de Syracuse com um BFA em estudos experimentais. Ele estudou no College of Visual and Performing Arts, incluindo o programa experimental Synapse, que evoluiu para CitrusTV.
