Wiki.
Sons of Good Earth (Da di er nu) is a 1965 Hong Kong film directed by King Hu. It takes place during the period of Japan's invasion of China. It received important media and prestigious casting, with actors Peter Chen Ho and Betty Loh Ti being two of the greatest stars of the Shaw Brothers at the time. The film experienced distribution problems in Singapore and Malaysia, where it was partly censored because of its subject (local legislation banning themes related to racial conflict); it was thus a commercial failure, which led to the cancellation of the film's shooting supposed to be the next of King Hu, Heroes of Underground, which took over the same themes. It was, however, a critical success, notably in Taiwan, where it received several awards at the Golden Horse Film Festival and Awards in 1966 (best scenario, best mounting, special prize for national spirit).
