Plot.
When Ruth Whitney abandons her two children with her sister Barbara is left to take care of them, at first none of them like it but soon they grow to like each other. Then over a year later Ruth comes back saying she wants her kids and Barbara goes to court to fight for custody.

Mamma perforce (An unexpected family) is a television film directed by Larry Elikann – the director of the films Guerra dei colori, 1985, and Emergenza nucleare, 1988 – and performed by Stockard Channing, Christine Ebersole and Noah Fleiss. Released in the USA in 1996 on the international network Universal Television. Channel 5 broadcasted it in two parts in the afternoons of 26 and 27 September 2000 and in reply on 21 September 2001 and 10 June 2009.In 1997 the actress Stockard Channing was in the rose of the candidates of the Screen Actors Guild Award for the best actress in a mini-series or film for television.
