The man who wrote The Mystery of the Mary Celeste directed Maria Celeste, a black and white film from Argentina. The cast included Pedro Lpez Lagar, Mirtha Legrand, Eduardo Cuitio, and Ilde Pirovano. The beginning of the plot is the appearance in front of Gibraltar of a cargo ship that had been abandoned by its crew, the captain, his wife, the couple's two-year daughter and seven sailors. The exteriors were filmed in Mar del Plata.
