Plot.
At the end of the war, Joseph leaves Rome and emigrates to Argentina with his family, with the idea of staying only a year and then returning. On the ship that brings them to America his wife gives birth to a child, who is given the name of Italo. Once arrived, Joseph understands that it will not be so easy to make money with his work as a bricklayer; his wife does not adapt to the new life, while his daughter begins to fall in love with the engineer head of his yard. When Joseph loses to the horse races all the little money he had managed to save in five months of hard work, he understands that the only solution is to return to Italy. But he doesn't have the money to pay for the trip, so he thinks he's breaking his arm on the yard so he can collect accident insurance.
