Plot.

The young and brilliant lawyer Fontana, who has just been married to Mary, receives the military appeal and must report to his Alpine unit; the young wife, in order to stay close to him, goes to stay in the same mountain town where he is in training. Here Fontana, recalled with the lieutenant degree, poorly endures the military life and for this reason enters into conflict with his superiors and in particular with Captain Sandri. The relations worsened when Fontana discovers that Sandri's brother, who died the previous year in a mountain accident, had previously been engaged with Mary. The tensions that accumulate lead to the marginalization of Fontana by his commilitoni, united by a strong spirit of body, and to the cooling of the relationship with his wife. Also the transfer of unity to the front, does not improve the relations between the soldiers.
