A 1993 Indian film directed by Mrinal Sen is based on a story called Badshahat Ka Khatimah by Saadat Hasan Manto, but with a different ending in the script. Antareen was the first non-Hindi project that Kapadia took part in. She was playing a woman caught in a loveless marriage. Kapadia refused to enroll in a crash-course in Bengali because she wrongly thought she would be able to speak it. At the 1993 National Film Award, it was awarded the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Bengali.
