It was born from an idea of Fatma Ruffini and Salvatore De Pasquale, in Depsa art. It goes on air since 1992, although with interruptions even of two or three years between one edition and the other. The transmission was, since the first edition, very popular, so much so that it entered in the common language to say, "You are on Jokes aside!", at the time, a "victim" is in an absurd and paradoxical situation, during which nothing serious and worrying is actually happening. In the scheme of the program, the authors agree with some accomplices to organize a joke to the "victim" chosen. The television program is a direct heir of the famous American show Candid Camera in which, to attract a larger audience, the victims of the jokes are characters taken from the world of show, cinema, music, journalism and politics, all more or less famous. The first edition of the program was aired from February 9, 1992 on Italy 1, and was conducted by Teo Teocoli and Gene Gnocchi. Since 1993, due to the success achieved, the program was moved to Canale 5. In 1997 it returned to Italy 1 and in the following edition, two years later, in 1999, it returned to Canale 5, for the eleventh edition. On April 2, 2012, after a break of three and a half years, the twelfth edition, totally renewed, was transmitted, conducted by Luca and Paolo: the first novelty was constituted by direct. In addition, during each episode, the parodies of historical television games were included in quiz and prize, and the so-called Top 5 of the historical jokes from 1992 to 2009, aired both on Canale 5 and on Italy 1 Within the program there are also spin-off, like the parody of the television series, Ai confini della realidad (1959) and The Twilight Zone (2002/2003), entitled Ai confini della Fico, with the victim of the joke Raffaella Fico, Scherzi apart by Night and Sexy apart. After another three years of pause, in 2015 the program returns on the air with two singles bets in a revolutionized edition and changing name in, Le Iene present: Jokes aside. Jokes, made by the editorial staff of Le Iene, are shown entirely during their preparation and realization before the implementation. The program changes completely compared to the past editions: it does not present jokes in studio or dancers, but only the audience sitting around Paolo Bonolis who introduces the jokes videos with short comic monologues and, later, hosts the victims of the jokes in studio interviewing them both sitting on a bench. After another 3 years of pause, the program returns in 2018, from 9 to 30 November for 4 bets, again under the leadership of Paolo Bonolis.
