The Dating Game was the first of many shows created and packaged by Chuck Barris from the 1960s through the 1980s. The New Dating Game continued in syndication for another year after ABC dropped it in 1973. It was revived in 1978–1980, 1986–1989, and 1996–1999. It was usually aired in conjunction with another Barris production, The Newlywed Game, which aired on ABC the following year. A number of other shows in the same style were inspired by the show.
