Overview

In 1871, in the city of São Leopoldo, a colony of German immigrants struggles to survive in a region marked by the effects of the Paraguayan War. It is there that Jacobina Mentz (Letícia Spiller) lives, leader of a religious sect dissident from Protestantism that is known as "the Mucker". Jacobina has visions and receives messages that she believes to be from Jesus Christ, so she starts caring for the poor and the disabled. As time goes by, the community of Mucker followers grows more and more, causing the leaders of the local society to discuss ways to nullify the increasing power that Jacobina has over the population.
