The escape from the golden dungeon is the second part of the two-part silent film Christian Wahnschafe, which Urban Gad realized in Berlin 1920/21 for the Terra Film, which was founded at the end of 1919. The title of the first part is Weltbrand (1920). The screenplay by Hans Behrendt and Bobby E. Lüthge was based on the second volume of the novel Christian Wahnschaffe by Jakob Wassermann, published by S. Fischer in 1919. The title role played Conrad Veidt, his opponent, the brutal artist Niels Heinrich, gave Werner Krauß.
